Since I was a little girl, I always wanted to be a teacher, a writer, and an entrepreneur. Even as young as Kindergarten, I wanted to “help” in my mom’s Kindergarten classroom, although I was not much help at that age. I grew up with a mix of teaching and ministry in my family, so naturally my life became the culmination of both.
After trying to go a different route and failing miserably, I ended up at the University of Florida where I received my Bachelors in Special Education and my Masters in Early Childhood Education, with an ESL (English as a Second Language) endorsement. Between Florida, Texas, and Illinois, I taught Kindergarten and First Grade in the public schools for 7 years. When I lost my job in Chicago in 2013 due to a teacher’s strike and school closures, I left public school education altogether and became a nanny.
I have worked in the field of education since 2001, and in addition to teaching in the classroom, I have been a nanny to multiple families (newborn to a 7 year-old with autism), taught in multiple daycares, helped begin a daycare from the ground up, written Language Arts curriculum for the Houston Independent School District, taught violin and piano to students ranging from 4 years old to 15 years old, and worked in and wrote and modified curriculum for the Special Needs Ministry at my former church.
My belief has always been that every child is capable of learning and it is a matter of building a strong relationship with them and understanding how they learn best in order to bring the best out of them. The majority of my experience has been in secular settings, but I was saved and became a follower of Jesus Christ in 2021 and it lit an even deeper passion within me to exhibit the love and character of Christ when working with my students.
I pray for my students and families and have even had the privilege of ministering to and praying with the parents of some of my students when the challenges of life get to be too much. It is an honor and a privilege for my tutoring to not just be a business but to truly be my ministry.
